In February 2020, The Igloo Choir were very kindly permitted by the bell ringers of St. Nicholas Church, Wickham, (Hampshire) to visit one of their rehearsals, learn about the bells and have a go! This year St. Nicholas is 900 years old, and we were moved to write something to commemorate this, and an anniversary of our own, with Igloo Music being 10 years old.

We learned that 'calling the changes' is the term for the bell ringers calling out which peals will come next. We also learned that there is a complex art and many traditions associated with bellringing. What struck us was that the bells had so many different purposes that have been used for hundreds of years.

We'd begun writing the song together as we normally would, but as lockdown came, we were pushed to finish this online of course for everyone's safety.

Once written, we then recorded it together remotely, with each member sending in their own parts recorded on a phone or similar device at home. As we got better at zoom rehearsals we realised there were many things we could do with virtual backgrounds etc and set about making a music video to go with the song.

This has been our main lockdown project for summer 2020. We hope it pays tribute to our local community, our gifted bellringers and local heritage of many years.
